When she graduated in 1992 Amanda Bossard began her study of marine biology in Anchorage in Alaska at the University of Alaska Pacific. Bossard started her career in commercial seafood in 1999 when she began working aboard the F/V Sunset the 65' halibut schooner turned to salmon tender with Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard was married to Aritan in 1999. The pair have come together to fight for their business. Both of them are in the direction of preserving resources and maximizing profits. In 2007, the mother of two children Bella age three and Andre 1 Bossard and then relocating back to live in Philadelphia established a direct market wholesale seafood distributor named Otolith. Otolith's name is an affectionate reference to Bossard's extensive experience with fish biology as well as her husband's many connections in the industry of seafood. It is common for them to be apart for five months each time they work towards objectives in the areas of environmental and financial that reflect their commitment and autonomy wherever they are. In July 2016, Bossard and her daughter Isabella aged 12 and son Andre age 10 return to Southeast Alaska annually each summer as deckhands during the summer wild salmon harvest. Following two years of fishing using hooks as well as lines, and a 42-foot salmon trolling machine they joined Aritan and were sold to local seafood processors.
